Will you help make America funky again?
Can you show those around you that you’re part of the change toward a funkier world?
The Funk will set us free!
Funk For Peace, Harmony, and Good Groove
Funk music is alive and well. Although the Funk flourished in the 1970s with James Brown & The J.B.s, Parliament/Funkadelic, The Ohio Players, Earth Wind & Fire, Kool & The Gang, Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes, War, and so many more — there are young musicians nowadays making some of the best Funk music ever recorded.
Currently, bands like Third Coast Kings, Quantic Soul Orchestra, Cookin’ On 3 Burners, Soulive, Lettuce, Ikebe Shakedown, Orgone, Monophonics, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, The Motet, Analog Son, Galactic, The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Pimps of Joytime, Freekbass, The New Mastersounds, El Metate, Polyrhythmics, Afrolicious, and lots more are making America funky again.
These new groups look back to what came before, and create new funky music from their unique perspective to keep the Funk vibe alive. These artists show us through their music that the Funk will set you free.
I encourage you to use this hashtag to Tweet out funky photos, Funk songs, concert footage, and links to music from your favorite Funk bands — #MakeAmericaFunkyAgain — as a peaceful, fun, funky antidote to the absurd vitriol at the more popular political hashtag (you know what I mean).
