In my head I was kind of imagining the cover of Bizarre Ride To The Pharcyde, an imaginary acid trip, and an adventure eating one’s way around Osaka. It’s silly, trippy, funky, and fun. I hope you get a chuckle from it.
The bands in this playlist are many of my favorites bands who #MakeAmericaFunkyAgain.
Third Coast Kings, Ikebe Shakedown, Orgone, Kung Fu, Polyrhythmics, The Word, The New Mastersounds (and a few other British bands), plus the Jig from Holland, and Osaka Monaurail from Japan, are among the best contemporary Funk groups getting creative and making Funk music intriguing and stimulating. So, enjoy this playlist of provocative instrumental Funk songs, and take a little trip with Errol Flynn & The Mendo Mulcher…

A Dope Instrumental Funk Trip With Errol Flynn & The Mendo Mulcher
While riding the Osaka Monaurail, practicing Kung Fu & doing a little polyrhythmic jig to The New Mastersounds, they stumbled upon Errol Flynn & The Mendo Mulcher grinding 2 plates of soul food.
“You got to get it,” said Errol. “But, skin the fat,” recommended The Mendo Mulcher.
“Don’t contradict me, jive turkey!,” shouted Errol.
And up the down they went, enjoying the weird serendipity of big city life, lookin’ for soul food & a place to eat.
After diggin’ deeper, they came across the Meat Machine right off West Grand Boulevard before you get to Ikebe Shakedown Street. There, they ordered 2 plates of soul food with a side of bread & butter.
Ten years on they still remember fondly that surreal trip to Osaka, and the funky state of the world they discovered, enjoying soul food behind the sun.
All thanks to a little tab of Libra Stripes.
Watch an outstanding performance from Polyrhythmics live on KEXP in Seattle because they inspired the story and Spotify playlist…
